Making Christmas Muffins

Just before we went on our Christmas break we made Yogurt Muffins which we then decorated with Christmas motifs.

Our lovely teaching assistant Jade helped us make and bake our muffins in groups of six. She had a recipe and showed us how to follow it.

First, we read the list of ingredients and tools needed:
- 1 cup of natural yogurt
- 2 cups of self raising flour
- 1 cup of caster sugar
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 4 whole eggs
- A pinch of salt
- Muffin baking tray
- Wooden spoon
- 1 big plastic bowl

Then, we mixed all the ingredients together:
Empty the contents of the yogurt into the plastic bowl. Use the yogurt cup to measure the sugar, the oil and the flour. Add the 4 whole eggs and a pinch of salt. Mix it all together with the wooden spoon until you get an even batter (without lumps). Get your baking tray out and place a bit of batter in each muffin space. DON'T fill it all up because the batter will grow and then your muffins won't look as good.
They are now ready to be baked!

After that, we put our muffins in the oven for about 10 minutes:
The baking time depends on how big your muffins are. We made small ones because we wanted to have 2 each so 10 minutes was enough. You can use this recipe to make a big cake too, but baking time would probably be around 30 minutes.

Finally, we got to decorate our muffins. Some children decided to eat their muffins. Others gave them as presents to their family or friends. This was great fun!

Try our recipe and let us know what you thought of it!
Suggestion - these muffins are also delicious with fruit. Just cut some apples, pears or whatever you like in little pieces and add to the batter before baking.

Here we are making our muffins:

Happy New Year to you all!

Jingle Bells by Year 3

Here's Year 3 singing the English version of Jingle Bells. Partners in the other schools have done the same in their own languages! You can check out their blogs if you want to learn it in Spanish, Italian, Polish or Turkish.

Here are the lyrics in case you want to sing along with them.
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight!
(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead.

Here's Year 3 making theirs. They have used paints, sequins, pastels, colouring pencils and much more to create a collage for their cards. They had lots of fun making them!

We will be sending our cards next week and can't wait to get their cards through the post! Hurry up Mr Postman!

Comenius Corner

We have created a Comenius Corner at school in the atrium on the way to the Lunch, PE and Collective Worship Hall. There you will find the latest work done by our children and sent by our partner schools.

In November we are focusing on Personal Health. We will be talking about Healthy Eating and Healthy Packed Lunches. We will send some information home at the end of it so that parents can help us become as healthy as possible.

In December we will be sending Christmas Cards to each other and exchanging some typical recipes.

We can't wait to show you everything!

Haven't they done a great job?! :)

St. Faith's Presentations to Partners

All children and staff at St. Faith's have contributed to the presentation of our school to the other European partners. Each year group focused on a different aspect of school life. Then Lynda and Mrs Thomson put everything together in this video. Enjoy!

Our Local Area - Wandsworth Town

Year 3 have prepared a presentation about our Local Area to show the other European schools.

The children you hear singing in the background are all St. Faith's children during Whole School Singing Practise on Thursdays with Mrs Thomson.

St. Faith's goes International!

A new Academic Year begins and a European Adventure starts with it. St. Faith's C of E Primary School has joined forces with four other European primary schools to participate in a 2-Year Comenius Project (2011-2013). The other participating schools are from the following countries:
- Asturias, Spain
- Mersin, Turkey
- Radziejow, Poland
- Baveno, Italy

The project is called 1-2-3 HEALTH. All participating schools will focus their activities on the study of personal, social and environmental health. Children will have the chance to participate in all activities related to this project.

All the work produced by all children in the different countries will be shared through this blog, mail, post and any other fun and accessible ways available.

We hope St. Faith's children enjoy this international project and become more aware of their health and of Europe as a result of it.

Best Wishes and Good Work!
